MartiDerm Hands for Help charitable work in Malawi

True to its international calling, MartiDerm has taken its charitable work to Malawi, participating in the Stop Sarna (Stop Scabies) solidarity dermatology project that aims to halt an acute outbreak of scabies in the Benga area. Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa. It borders Zambia and Tanzania to the northwest and Mozambique to the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi, one of the largest lakes on the continent. Malawi has a total population of 16 million people and a life expectancy of 63 years.

Scabies is cured with just one or two treatment capsules. The main problem is lack of medication. The project, led by Dr Galván, also has the support of the Fundación Piel Sana (Healthy Skin Foundation). Our cooperation approach consisted of providing all the parts, tools and training for onsite production of the compound medication, capsules and creams to treat it.

And, in a show of our commitment to local development, we began a second project, awarding grants to 6 young people to undertake health studies (medicine and nursing) in collaboration with Active Africa, and building a housing complex for teachers.

Our commitment began in 2018 but will continue. Our formula supports the creation of joint projects ranging from care to empowerment.

Working as a team to get things done!
