For a summer free of dark skin spots!

You spend a lot of time waiting for summer. But did you know you can spend even more time reversing its effects? It's true, because the skin problems brought on by the sun get worse at this time of year and can have lasting effects. That’s why you should prevent or reverse them as soon as you can.

Why do dark spots appear on the skin?

Skin colour is determined by exposure to the sun and cells producing melanin, a natural pigment that protects the skin from UV rays. What happens when this pigment doesn't work properly? Basically, two things:

  • Hyperpigmentation: dark spots appear on the skin, usually in the areas most exposed to solar radiation, such as the face, shoulders and neckline.
  • Depigmentation: white spots appear due to overexposure to the sun causing a loss of melanin in the cells. This is less common on the face but it can happen.

The sun can also intensify melasma, a diffuse light brown discolouration particularly affecting women, especially during pregnancy and menopause or because they are on the pill.

How can you prevent skin spots?

Ultraviolet radiation is the main culprit of skin lesions: by altering melanin production, it causes the appearance of dark spots or intensifies existing ones.

To prevent it, MartiDerm has Pigment Zero, a dedicated product range to counteract skin hyperpigmentation which not only prevents new spot formation but stops ones you already have from getting darker:

DSP-Bright with double depigmenting action. Contain tranexamic acid and 5% Vitamin C-Tech to even skin tone and brighten the skin.

DSP-Brightening Serum: reduces dark spots thanks to selective depigmenting active ingredients like hexylresorcinol and phytic acid.

DSP-Cream SPF 50+: protects from the sun and prevents sun spots, age spots and other types of hyperpigmentation with the combination of its active ingredients: kojic acid, salicylic acid and vitamin C.

DSP-Renovation Cream: acts only where there are dark spots and prevents their appearance. Contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids that encourage cell renewal.

DSP-Cover with a concealing effect: corrects dark spots, giving the skin a smoother appearance and more even tone.

DSP-Mask with a high concentration of active ingredients and an intensive depigmenting effect.

Food supplement

DSP-Antiox Capsules: supplement with an antixoidant, sunscreen and antiaging effect that prepares the skin for exposure to the sun and prevents photoaging.

Pigment Booster: a month-long, advanced routine combining 4 products to reduce and prevent dark spots on the face, remove blemishes and even tone.

Can hyperpigmentation affect you? Yes, because at the end of the day, regardless of what skin type you have, we are all vulnerable. However, the longer you spend in the sun the more you are exposed to it. That is why the Pigment Zero range will be your best shield against its effects, preventing and reversing skin spots.

And remember: prevention is better than cure

You are already well acquainted with them, but whenever we talk about the effects of the sun, we should remember 3 basic tips:

  • High SPF-factor sunscreen, effective against UVA and UVB rays. Reapply every 2 or 3 hours.
  • Stay out of the sun in the hottest part of the day.
  • Use hats, caps, umbrellas and clothing to cover the areas most exposed to the sun, such as the face, neckline, shoulders, hands and arms.

Because, as you know, the best way to prevent the appearance of dark spots is prevention.
