Get a better tan looking after your diet

The good weather has arrived and with it we are looking forward to going to the beach, sunbathing and... why not? Getting a tan! But for your skin to look healthy and glowing, the first thing you must do is protect it.

In addition to a good sunscreen, it is also very important to take care of our skin with hydration and diet. Believe it or not, there are certain nutrients that not only favour our tan, but also help to protect the skin from solar radiation and to prolong our tan! Do you want to know what they are?

Foods that favour tanning:

  • Water

If our skin is not properly hydrated, it will begin to peel and… goodbye tan! So, this summer drink water, fresh fruit juices or iced tea.

  • Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Collagen and elastin also protect the skin from solar radiation, two essential substances to maintain the elasticity of your skin. Eat 3 portions of fruit or vegetables a day and you'll see how your face has a more attractive appearance.

  • Foods rich in beta carotene and other carotenoids

We are sure that you have heard many times that eating carrots in the summer makes you browner. You'll be happy to know that this is absolutely true! Carrots, like so many other foods rich in beta carotene, favour the production of melanin. These foods are characterised by their striking colour (red, yellow or orange), such as peppers, apricots, peaches, pumpkin, tomatoes, watermelon and cherries. However, according to the doctor and dietician Isabel Belaustegui Trías, there is another food that provides 15 times more vitamin A than carrots: red palm oil. This food, rich in carotene, helps you to get a nice and long-lasting tan. So now you know… This summer, make sure you use it in your salads!

  • Foods rich in B group vitamins

Yes, also meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and legumes are essential for maintaining the skin's elasticity. 

  • Foods rich in vitamin E

Other foods like olive oil, egg yolk, avocado and nuts such as hazelnuts are also necessary in your summer diet, thanks to their antioxidant and healing action.

  • Foods rich in omega 3

These foods are perfect for getting a longer-lasting tan. They also help your skin combat dryness and dehydration. They are blue fish, nuts and vegetable oils.

Now that you know some food tips, just enjoy sunbathing! Start introducing these foods into your diet two months before the summer to get a good tan. But don't forget to protect your skin beforehand with sunscreen to maintain the health of your skin and prevent its ageing.
