Your skin in autumn

Thanks to the many awareness-raising campaigns, most of us know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun in summer. However, when the bad weather comes, we tend to relax.

With two added problems. Firstly, it’s actually in autumn that dark marks and all the problems related to the sun and heat start to show. And secondly, autumn is a season that’s complicated by constant changes in the weather, which directly affects the state of our skin.

But it’s not all bad news... it’s easy to care for your face and enjoy beautiful skin in autumn!


1. Cleanse... but not in excess.

Your skin needs to be properly cleansed. It’s important to keep your skin clean, but without using too much soap or washing too often. Showering once a day is usually enough. And in terms of soap, use a mild soap and only use it in the most sweaty areas. You don’t need sponges; it’s fine just to rub with your hands.

Also, you should make sure the water isn’t too hot for your daily wash. How ever much you might feel like a long, hot shower, you shouldn't give in to the temptation. Remember that hot water damages the epidermis. The best thing is to have a quick shower with warm water.

After the summer it’s also a good idea to apply a mild scrub that respects the skin but removes all the dead cells. And if you wear makeup, you should always remove your makeup before going to bed. As you know, failing to remove your makeup properly can result in many skin problems.


2. Moisturise your skin

On your face and your body. Bear in mind that your arms and legs in particular are some of the areas most exposed to the sun and heat. It’s a good idea to make sure they’re well moisturised. But the part of your body that most suffers from the rigours of time is your face. The sun, heat, sea and pool in summer. And now the wind, cold, sun and pollution.

Find the ideal cream for you. It’s as important to use a good cream as it is to choose the right cream for you.

And while we’re on the matter of moisturisation, let’s also talk about drinking water. About 2 litres a day. It’s important to remember this, especially at this time of year, because it’s no longer as hot as it was in summer so we don’t feel the need to drink water.


3. Use sunscreen

The sun’s rays are not just harmful in summer; it’s advisable to use sunscreen all year round.

Although the UVA index has decreased and you think it isn’t so sunny, it actually is! Applying sunscreen daily to exposed areas of skin, whatever the time of year, will help to keep your skin youthful and free from dark marks.


4. Antioxidants inside and out

Vitamin C is the most common antioxidant. It can be applied to the face in the form of ampoules, helping to brighten the skin and fight the oxidative process, but we can also obtain it by eating fruit and vegetables and drinking natural juices, which provide some very beneficial effects for the skin from the inside too.


5. Depigmenting treatments

The ideal time to get rid of dark marks on your skin is after the summer. Now’s the time to discover how many of your dark marks can be eliminated with a good dermocosmetic treatment.


6. A healthy lifestyle

Eat healthily, do exercise, keep your alcohol consumption to a minimum and quit smoking. All this will help ensure you have good skin. It might seem hard at first. But believe us, it won’t be long before you notice the results. Your body will thank you for it. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. And of course, practice Smart Aging: live and be happy. Or like many of us, make your daily mantra... “Hakuna matata”!
