Summer is coming: heat, naps, dips, the desire to do nothing and the desire to do it all.
And of course, it’s time for water sports. Paddle surfing, wakeboarding and flyboarding are just some of the ways you can beat the heat, work out and have a load of fun.
For the more sedate among you. Originally from Hawaii, paddle surfing has become one of the top summer sports. It basically consists of ploughing through the water while standing on a surfboard. It might look easy or even dull, but we assure you it requires balance and strength. It’s a very healthy form of exercise that will let you commune with the sea, its sounds and movements.
For speed freaks. Wakeboarding is essentially water skiing but on a board. As you may have guessed, you’ll need a jet ski or boat to give you the speed you need. A great workout for arms, legs and glutes. Exercise is assured. Fun even more so.
For those who like their emotions strong. And finally, flyboarding. Have you every fancied flying above the vast ocean? Incredible though it may seem, with flyboarding you can. The idea is to stand on a board (snowboard or wakeboard) and be propelled up to 12 metres above the water. To do it, the board uses high-pressure water it receives from a hose connected to a craft... It's an exercise in acrobatics more than a sport!
As you can see, the summer and water offer many possibilities. So depending on your age, destination, companions and how keen you are, you can choose the water sport that's best for you. But whichever you choose, make sure to protect your skin. When we're in the water for long periods we forget about the heat and the need to protect ourselves as we no longer have that asphyxiating heat we would have were we lying on the sand.
The ritual is clear and simple:
- The key is to apply cream half an hour before you go out in the sun.
- Put it on again just before entering the water.
- And when you get back to the beach, repeat the operation!
It's the only way to make sure you don’t get a sunburn. We recommend our liquid texture Proteos Screen SPF 50+. It will protect you from the sun and moisturise your skin at the same time. Plus it doesn’t make your eyes sting.
Enjoying life doesn't mean not looking after yourself or risking your health. In fact it means you should take care of yourself so you can keep on having fun for many years to come. That's the clever attitude, the #SmartAging attitude.
