Preventing skin blemishes: what you need to know

Skin blemishes are not the concern of a minority. Or at least, they shouldn't be. They affect more than 20% of the Spanish population, according to studies carried out by professionals. Their main cause is well-known: solar radiation. But it's not the only one.

The good news is that MartiDerm has spent more than 10 years researching the Formula to reduce skin blemishes and treat localised dark spots. In other words, obtaining the solution to say goodbye to the facial blemishes that impact your skin health and, just as critically, your self-esteem. This extensive research has resulted in the Pigment Zero depigmentation range, with products so innovative and effective that they reduce visible spots by up to 65%*.

Why spots appear on your face

 Solar radiation

Sunbathing without protection has more consequences for the skin than just a reddish tint to the cheeks or a natural tan in summer.

Solar radiation comprises four well-known types of rays, including UVA and UVB. UVB rays are those that penetrate the epidermis, the first layer of the skin, and cause you to tan, which can lead to burns and allergic reactions. UVA rays, on the other hand, those that reach the dermis, can produce free radicals. This leads to skin photoaging, brown spots, sun intolerance and skin cancer.

The solution is not to hide from the sun but to protect yourself from it. Our skin is exposed to the sun's rays every time we go outside, so it's essential to know that SPF creams with broad-spectrum sun protection should be used daily, all year round.

 Hormonal imbalances

Hormonal imbalances are another major cause of skin blemishes. They are often linked to female hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone.

And are commonly seen in women who are pregnant, menopausal or on the pill. However, they can also appear by chance, without any of the three scenarios mentioned above.

In more technical terms, this hormonal disorder triggers the excessive production of melanocytes, the skin cells that produce melanin, and it is this overproduction of melanin that produces hyperpigmentation.

Genetics

Our genes play a major role in deciding the course of our skin over time. For example, although darker complexions have a greater tendency to develop skin blemishes, genetics is decisive and in many cases skin can be prone to developing hyperpigmentation regardless of its tone. This can be frustrating for the individual experiencing it, but with a specialised routine in this area visible results can be achieved.

Blue light or digital pollution

Long hours in front of the screen impact the skin. Screens release blue light, also known as 'digital pollution', causing an overproduction of melanin, which promotes the onset of skin blemishes.

Finally, as a result of any of these causes, photoaging plays a detrimental role in the skin. The passage of time leaves visible signs on the skin and any of the causes above will accentuate these signs on our face. It is therefore important to remember that all the above factors will become more pronounced with age.

The two types of facial blemishes you need to identify

Lentigo is the most common type of skin blemish. It is characterised by being small, round and well-defined. It is found in areas that have been exposed to the sun, so it is very common to see it on the face. Age plays an important role in the appearance of this type of spot. As a sign of sun damage, it is more pronounced between the ages of 35 and 40.

You have probably heard of melasma. It is that poorly delimited spot on the upper lip that can be very hard to get rid of. It is very common, either due to hormonal causes or other external factors such as the sun, which aggravate it. This type of localised spot, which is complex to treat, darkens in summer and may be less marked in winter, but always acts in conjunction with a predisposition on the part of the patient.

Three everyday partners to help prevent skin blemishes

Consistency is the secret to even skin tone and combating blemishes. It is therefore important to take a step-by-step approach: the Pigment Zero range offers products that work right across hyperpigmentation - before, during and after.

Step one: DSP-BRIGHT ampoules

The product you should use day and night, straight after cleansing your face.

DSP-Bright ampoules comprise Vitamin C-Tech, genistein and a DSP.TX complex made up of active ingredients such as tranexamic acid and bellis perennis.

Not only does their composition treat and reduce dark spots to even skin tone, the ingredients also help prevent the appearance of new dark spots.

Mano con Ampolla DSP Bright

The natural active ingredients, considered second-generation depigmenting agents, protect the cell to prevent damage when exposed to sunlight, forming melanin in a controlled fashion and without producing hyperpigmentation. The efficacy of the formula is such that, according to the results of clinical studies, 86% of the people who tried it saw a reduction in their dark spots**.

Instructions for use: we recommend applying half an ampoule a day in the morning and at night. Use before your regular face, neck and neckline cosmetic treatment.

Step two: DSP-BRIGHTENING SERUM

A serum with depigmenting active ingredients that prevents the appearance of the first spots, evens skin tone and brightens the face, treating brown spots when they appear. The composition and texture make this serum suitable for all skin types. Can be used when pregnant.

Mano con DSP Sérum Iluminador

Due to its depigmenting and antioxidant actives such as phytic acid and hexylresorcinol, it prevents the appearance of skin blemishes during hormonal changes or when taking photosensitising medication.

In addition, DSP-Brightening Serum evens and reduces the tone of existing hyperpigmentation and its fast absorption makes it compatible with other regular cosmetic treatments. It has been dermatologically tested and the people who tried it said their skin looked 87% more hydrated***.

Instructions for use: apply during the day, just before your usual cream. Suitable for oily and sensitive skin.

Finally, DSP-CREAM SPF 50+

Essential in your everyday life. DSP-Cream SPF 50+ is a daily care product capable of reducing existing blemishes and protecting us with a 50+ sun protection filter against UVB and UVA radiation to prevent new dark spots. The results of clinical studies have found: it reduces visible spots by up to 65%*.

Mano con DSP crema FPS 50+

Due to the complexity of its formula, made from depigmenting active ingredients such as tranexamic acid, it is considered a dual product in that it both reduces and prevents spots.

It can be applied at the end of your beauty routine as a daily treatment. It can easily be combined with our DSP-Bright ampoules and DSP-Brightening Serum.

Instructions for use: apply a sufficient amount to the entire face and reapply when necessary.
