24th of October: International Day Against Climate Change

In the current context of climate emergency, it is increasingly urgent for both people and businesses to adopt sustainable practices to take care of our planet. At MartiDerm, we take on this responsibility with conviction, integrating sustainability at the centre of our processes and actions. Through specific and measurable actions, we have not only reduced our environmental impact, but have also strengthened our fight against climate change.

2024 has been a crucial year for advancing in this field, achieving important milestones such as the GHG (Greenhouse Gas) certification in the measurement of our Carbon Footprint and recognition of our work at the VPC Green Beauty Awards.

Sustainability in our Code of Ethics

Our focus on sustainability is clearly defined in the MartiDerm Code of Ethics, which establishes that “we are committed to sustainability in all areas of our activity: installations, production process and products”. This commitment includes strict guidelines for waste treatment and efficient use of resources, and all members of the organisation are expected to actively participate in global sustainability initiatives.

Dermo-cosmetics, like any other industry, has a significant impact on the environment, and at MartiDerm we have taken on the challenge of reducing our ecological footprint. 2024 has been a key year on our path towards a greener future, and today we want to share some of the milestones that demonstrate our active fight against climate change.

Measurement of Carbon Footprint and GHG Certification

In 2023, MartiDerm measured its Carbon Footprint, a key process for evaluating the impact of our operations in terms of Greenhouse Gases (GHG).

A carbon footprint measurement consists of 3 different scopes:

  • • Scope 1: Direct emissions, from activities controlled by the organisation, such as internal combustion, release of refrigerant gases and use of own vehicles.
  • • Scope 2: Indirect emissions generated by electricity, heat or cold acquired by the company, coming from external sources under its control.
  • • Scope 3: Indirect emissions along the value chain, including those generated by suppliers, production, transport and business trips.
GHG protocol scopes and emissions

Thanks to the implementation of these measurements and our energy optimisation initiatives, we have managed to reduce our Carbon Footprint by 27% in comparison with 2018, the first year that we began to measure it.

This milestone not only reflects our commitment to efficiency, but has also allowed us to obtain the GHG Certification, an international recognition that attests to our commitment to reducing atmospheric emissions and our approach to a more responsible production.

Recognitions at the VPC Green Beauty Awards

2024 has also been a year of great recognitions. We are proud to have been awarded at the VPC Green Beauty Awards, an event that awards the brands most committed to sustainability in the cosmetics industry:

  • Gold Award for the best Eco Parapharmacy innovation for our Active [D] Body Lotion SPF50+ product. This recognition highlights our capacity for reducing environmental impact, reducing the use of plastic in packaging thanks to the reduction of its cap and incorporating recycled PET in the tube.
  • Bronze Award for the company most committed to sustainability, an award that reflects our firm will to integrate sustainable practices in all our operations, and our environmental commitment.

These awards are proof that at MartiDerm we continue to lead the way towards a greener, more environmentally friendly industry. We know that the challenge is constant, but each step we take leads us closer to a sustainable future.

Ongoing commitment to the environment

At MartiDerm, we believe that well-being for the skin and the planet are intrinsically linked. Therefore, our commitment to sustainability is a priority in all our activities. From the use of innovative technologies such as solar panels and geothermal energy, to waste reduction and optimisation of use of resources, we continue working to minimise our ecological impact.

Today, on the International Day Against Climate Change, we renew our commitment to continuing working with transparency and responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint and advance toward a more sustainable future. We are more committed than ever to protecting our planet and continuing to offer high quality products, always respecting the environment around us.
