Vitamin C

What is it?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin our body is unable to synthesise. We therefore have to eat it or apply it topically to be able to leverage its properties.

What does it do for your skin?

Vitamin C acts on 3 main processes:

  1. Collagen synthesis: engages in the formation of collagen and stabilises its structure.
  2. Antioxidant: vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help neutralise free radicals and oxidising agents such as those found in environmental pollutants or produced after exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
  3. Depigmenting and brightening effect: vitamin C and its derivatives reduce melanin synthesis since they have antioxidant properties that protect the epidermal cells from the effects of free radicals and therefore melanocyte stimulation.
