Ergothioneine

What is it?

Ergothioneine is an amino acid found in certain mushrooms and fermented foods, as well as in nuts, legumes, leafy greens and seafood in small amounts. In skincare, it is used for its powerful antioxidant properties and ability to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin.

What does it do for your skin?

This dual mechanism means it both prevents and reduces dark spots. Its antioxidant action helps reduce oxidative stress, a key factor in the development and worsening of dark spots. Also, by inhibiting the production of melanin, it helps fade dark spots and promotes a more even skin tone.
