Glycosaminoglycans (Oral)
What is it?
Proteoglycans are molecules that form part of the structure of the dermis and epidermis. They are formed by a carrier protein to which different chains of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are bonded. In addition to the skin, GAGs are found in the cartilage of joints.
What does it do for your skin?
In the skin, GAGs are directly involved in maintaining viscoelasticity and hydration by regulating the water content of connective tissue. They therefore help improve tissue hydration and firmness. Once absorbed in the digestive system, they are also the perfect substrate for the formation of new extracellular matrix proteins.
